In the penultimate episode of the season, the stage is set for a climactic confrontation at the facility Nina discovered that, at least on the surface, appears to be working toward a cure for werewolves. Unfortunately, their techniques haven’t yielded success yet, but that doesn’t stop them from trying over and over again. After the explosion last week that killed scores of vampires, Mitchell may yet foresake his remaining humanity altogether.
Daisy was an intriguing character from the moment we met her, seemingly almost without a moral compass and willing to do anything. She also sits and climbs around like a spider- monkey, creating a unique visual look to her whenever she’s on the screen. I almost expected her to be crouched over Mitchell post-coitus picking entrails off of his body.
As for Mitchell himself, after the loss of so many of his brothers and sisters, he appears to have gone completely off the rails. So in this one episode we had George pushing full-throttle toward a normal life, with mixed results, and Mitchell abandoning his humanity almost completely. The slaughter of a train car full of innocent people is not something his conscience should be able to live with, but as we saw in his final scenes of the episode with George and Annie, he’s barely able to keep his own monster at bay.
Poor George learned the hard way how risky it is for him to attempt a normal life when a time change lead to his transformation beginning in the middle of parent-teacher conferences at school. That he terrorized the school and even worse, Molly proves that he’s far too dangerous to be on the loose. Of course, if he could just come up with a way to justify vanishing for two entire days, he could make sure he was sequestered long before the moon comes out on its full night.
That’s if Kemp and Lucy can’t cure him; which I doubt they can. I’m not even sure they want to, or that Kemp seems too concerned with it either way. Lucy seemed content with her role in the deaths of all those vampires, and werewolves have been dying in their chamber. But why make a chamber if there isn’t at least some desire to cure? Kemp seemed to indicate he believed there were souls worth salvaging within George and Nina, believing the werewolf curse to be Satanic possession instead.
Now that Mitchell has a last name on Lucy, he knows Professor Jaggat is the one he seeks. Annie and George are there, though Annie can pop out any time she wants so far as we know. Mitchell will track Lucy down and things should get ugly before the end. Annie indicated she didn’t think they’d see that house again, and we do seem to be setting up for a pretty big climax here. I’m not even sure if Mitchell can be redeemed now for his most recent deeds, nor if he should.
