“No one’s ever after me brown parts.” Bertram the leprechaun
After a couple of weeks where the humor quotient was slipping precariously, ‘MAD’ returned strong this week. There were a lot of pop culture jokes in the “Wall-E-Nator” sketch, and I absolutely loved the bit with the kids finding Bertram, who makes the “brown” cereal bits for Lucky Charms. The poor guy is right; nobody cares about his contributions.
Both the longer sketches turned out to be winners, with the “Extreme Renovation” of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude filled with plenty of laughs, as well as character nods to fans of Superman and his comic books. The “MAD Guide to Phobias” had some funny moments as well. I think Usher’s Build-a-Bieber is a genuine moment of marketing genius; every pre-teen girl in the world would want to make one of their own!
The single gag short “The killer is in this room” was hilarious once you realized they were in the execution chamber. Unless he didn’t mean the man about to be killed for his crimes. Maybe he meant the executionor, and ‘MAD’ is making a political statement?
Nah, it’s all just snippets of nonsense, right? After all, the Wall-E-Nator had just declared ‘MAD’ the biggest producers of garbage in the world.
