Ratings Recap: ‘School Pride’ Another Dud for NBC, While CBS Drops But Still Dominates

(for Friday, October 15, 2010) Celebrating an impressive 200 episodes, The CW’s ‘Smallville’ was the number one show in the 8 PM hour in the advertiser’s Adults 18-49 demographic. With ‘Outlaw’ banished to Saturdays, NBC can now start worrying about the horrible premiere of ‘School Pride’ at the top of the night. Nothing is working for that network this year.

CBS (1.5/5, 8.66 million) easily took the night, despite all three shows continuing to decline. The CW (1.3/4, 2.99 million) rose to second in the demo thanks to ‘Smallville’s gains helping ‘Supernatural’ as well. NBC (1.1/4, 4.26 million) has to be considering three hours of ‘Dateline’ at this point, while ABC (1.1/4, 4.22 million) is doing well enough with repeats and ’20/20.’ Poor FOX (0.8/3, 2.5 million) is just failing miserably on Fridays.

Ratings Recap: ‘Saturday Night College Football’ Good for ABC, But Still Can’t Beat Fox

(for Saturday, October 9, 2010) As usual, FOX (1.5/5, 4.64 million) was on top with their evergreen lineup of ‘Cops’ and ‘America’s  Most Wanted.’ Thanks to college football, though, ABC (1.4/5, 4.33 million) was competitive in both categories.

CBS (1.0/3, 5.13 million) gets the total viewers, as usual, but it’s clear that neither they nor NBC (0.7/2, 3.32 million) really care what happens on Saturdays. At least in NBC’s case we know it’s because they’ve got bigger fish to fry. CBS actually has the ratings prowess and consistency to take a stab at programming the night.

Ratings Recap: ‘Blue Bloods’ Slipping, But With ‘Outlaw’ And ‘The Good Guys’ Nobody’s Going to Notice

(for Friday, October 8, 2010) ‘Blue Bloods’ isn’t dominating like it used to, particularly in the advertiser valued Adults 18-49 demographic, but it’s got a long way to drop still before CBS would even think of worrying. FOX and NBC, on the other hand, need to start worrying right now as both ‘Outlaw’ and ‘The Good Guys’ are failing in epic proportions, getting beaten or tying with The CW in that demo.

Obviously, CBS (1.6/6, 9.02 million) was the night’s winner, followed by NBC (1.4/5, 5.76 million), thanks to those two-hour installments of ‘Dateline NBC.’ ABC (1.2/4, 3.98 million) is still playing with repeats, while The CW (1.0/4, 2.33 million) is consistency on Fridays, while FOX (0.9/3, 2.67 million) is starting to fade away.

Ratings Recap: CBS and ABC Battle for the Crown, With the Eye Narrowly Claiming Victory

(for Thursday, October 7, 2010) By the narrowest of margins, CBS (3.0/9, 12.572 million) was tops on the night in both total viewers and the Adults 18-49 demographic. ABC (2.9/8, 8.24 million) would probably have this crown were it not for their dead zone at 8PM, now filled with repeats of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ performing horribly as well.

FOX (2.3/7, 7.176 million) was next, followed by NBC (2.1/6, 4,806 million) in their typical fourth place finish, despite the accolades their comedy lineup gets. The CW (1.3/4, 3.206 million) is thrilled with the power of their Thursday and Friday lineups.

Ratings Recap: The 10 PM Shows Are Starting to Fight, ‘Modern Family’ Keeps Soaring

(for Wednesday, October 6, 2010) ‘Modern Family’ appears to be elevating ‘Cougar Town’ toward genuine hit status, while all those legal shows at 10 PM just might be starting to cannibalize one another.

Thanks to a ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ boost, FOX (3.1/9, 6.623 million) was able to climb into a tie with CBS (3.1/9, 11.621 million) in the Adults 18-49 demographic, where ‘Survivor’ was the only show not to drop week-to-week. ABC (2.5/7, 7.076 million) is solid with their comedy block, though ‘The Whole Truth’ is hurting them, as they’re closing on the total viewer friendly ‘Law & Order’ dominated NBC (2.1/6, 7.713 million) in that category. The CW (1.1/3, 2.505 million) is getting a mixed bag of performance on Wednesdays: one good and one not so good.

Ratings Recap: ‘Glee’ Drops But Still Wins in the Demo, While CBS’s Entire Lineup Beats It in Viewers

(for Tuesday, October 5, 2010) Thanks to the power of ‘Glee,’ and no thanks to ‘Running Wilde,’ Fox (3.3/9, 8.07 million) barely snatched the demo crown from viewers champ CBS (3.2/9, 16.111 million). Nobody has a bigger and older audience in television than the Eye. I wonder if it has cataracts.

ABC (2.5/7, 11.209 million) was next, as their freshman series try to find their levels, leaving NBC (2.3/7, 6.254 million) in the familiar fourth place, despite two hours of ‘The Biggest Loser.’ That franchise isn’t performing as it usually does at all this season. The CW (0.9/2, 1.788 million) is consistent and low on Tuesdays.

Ratings Recap: NBC Falls Across the Line, ‘Lie to Me’ Premieres Much Stronger Than ‘Lone Star’

(for Monday, October 4, 2010) ABC (3.9/10, 17.383 million) danced away to another easy Monday night victory, while CBS (3.6/9, 11.271 million) saw good retention for both of their freshmen series: ‘Mike & Molly’ and ‘Hawaii Five-0.’

With ‘Lone Star’ replaced by ‘Lie to Me,’ FOX (3.0/8, 8.252 million) is revitalized on the night, pushing NBC (2.0/5, 6.221 million) to fourth place and dropping. Only ‘Chuck’ is showing any signs of stability. The CW (1.1/3, 2.024 million), on the other hand, has a very stable lineup.

Ratings Recap: CBS Does Better When It Starts Shows On Time So Fans Can Find Them

(for Sunday, October 3, 2010) CBS had multiple reasons to celebrate. By actually starting their shows on time this week, rather than an hour and fifteen minutes late due to football last week, they showed improvements across the night. Even better, ‘CSI: Miami’ shifted from Mondays to Sundays and brought its entire Adults 18-49 demographic rating score with it.

Thanks to ‘Sunday Night Football,’ NBC (5.7/15, 15.262 million) actually wins a night each week. The spring is going to be ugly. FOX (4.3/11, 9.629 million) was next thanks to their demo-friendly “Animation Domination” block and a huge football overrun, followed by CBS (3.2/8, 12.031 million), and ABC (2.9/8, 9.502 million), who are settling for Sunday stability.

Ratings Recap: College Football Takes Half the Schedule and Does Much Better For CBS Than ABC

(for Saturday, October 2, 1010) ABC and CBS had college football, while FOX was the same as usual. NBC mixed things up a bit, adding more ‘Law & Order’ to their procedural repeat mix, as well as Jennifer Love Hewitt, and got a boost in ratings as a result.

CBS (2.9/10, 8.55 million) had a dominant first-place finish, followed by the usual winner FOX (1.4/5, 4.54 million) and ABC (1.3/4, 3.99 million) in a close third. NBC (1.0/3, 4.54 million) was still last, but it’s a stronger last than last week and they’ll take what they can get this season.

Ratings Recap: ‘The Good Guys’ Keeps Fading, ‘Blue Bloods’ a Bona Fide Friday Hit

(for Friday, October 1, 2010) CBS continues to own Fridays, and even more dominantly now that ‘CSI: NY’ and ‘Blue Bloods’ are here. ‘Medium’ is winning its hour, but it’s not nearly such a powerful presence. FOX, on the other hand, is completely falling part now that ‘The Good Guys’ has ‘House’ repeats as lead-ins.

It was CBS (1.6/6, 8.84 million) by a landslide over NBC (1.2/4, 5.67 million), thanks to ‘Dateline.’ ABC (1.1/4, 4.09 million) found a better mix of repeats, but ’20/20′ underperformed, while The CW (1.0/4, 2.36 million) is consistent on the night. FOX (0.8/3, 2.54 million) barely beat The CW in total viewers, and if it doesn’t change this lineup soon, it just might lose that category as well.

Ratings Recap: Everybody Slips, But Nobody as Badly as ‘My Generation’

(for Thursday, September 30, 2010) It was an off night for the major networks, with every single show losing total viewers from their premiere weeks. It came down to who was going to hold up better, and it was the veteran shows who did that.

Thanks to their new comedy power hour, CBS (3.3/10, 13.191 million) was dominant on the night. ABC (2.8/6, 8.068 million) still has some power in their ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ block, which is good because ‘My Generation’ stinks. NBC (2.3/7, 5.115 million) is demo friendly with their comedies, which is good because ‘The Apprentice’ stinks. FOX (2.2/6, 7.502 million) and The CW (1.3/4, 2.965 million) are perhaps the most consistent.

Ratings Recap: ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ Outperforms ‘SVU’ In Its Premiere, All But ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ And The CW Down

(for Wednesday, September 29, 2010) Virtually everyone was down last night, except for The CW and ‘Hell’s Kitchen.’ ABC’s returning comedies are still above their spring averages, while NBC’s ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ debuted very well.

CBS (3.2/9, 12.317 million) was well above the competition, thanks to ‘Survivor,’ ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘The Defenders,’ despite declines in all of them. ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ gave FOX (2.9/9, 6.308 million) second in the advertiser valued Adults 18-49 demo, though it came in behind both NBC (2.5/7, 8.95 million) and ABC (2.4/7, 8.331 million) in total viewers. The CW (1.1/3, 2.582 million) was consistent and in respectable shape thanks to stability from ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and ‘Hellcats.’

Ratings Recap: Britney Brings ‘Glee’ Its Best Ratings Yet, ‘No Ordinary Family’ Off to Solid Start

(for Tuesday, September 28, 2010) ‘The Good Wife’ premiered and it’s as if she never left, while new superhero drama ‘No Ordinary Family’ is off to a good start for ABC. ‘Glee’ hit a new series high with their Britney Spears episode, while later in the night, ‘Running Wilde’ is tanking fast, but perhaps not as fast as ‘Parenthood’ over on NBC.

Thanks to a ‘Glee’-tastic night, FOX (4.2/12, 9.684 million) had a commanding lead in the advertiser-valued Adults 18-49 demographic, while CBS (3.4/9, 16.027 million) rode the power of ‘NCIS’ to the viewers crown. ABC (3.0.8, 12.267 million) with ‘Family’ and ‘Dancing With the Stars’  was next, leaving NBC (2.5/7, 6.372 million) and a deflated ‘Biggest Loser’ to wallow in fourth place. The CW (0.9/2, 1.698 million) just missed a 1.0 in the demo.

Ratings Recap: ‘Lone Star’ Dead, ‘The Event’ and ‘Chase’ Need to Stop Dropping Soon

(for Monday, September 27, 2010) ‘Chuck’ was the only stable show on NBC’s lineup, though it is also the lowest-rated. FOX learned that clearly no one is going to show up to watch ‘Lone Star,’ while CBS’s lineup showed solid stability across the night, even growing in the 8 PM hour week-to-week.

But ABC (4.3/11, 18.501 million) was tops in all categories thanks to the ongoing strength of ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ That stability was enough to grant CBS (3.7/10, 11.146 million) a satisfying second place, while FOX (2.5, 6.878 million) and NBC (2.3/6, 6.887 million) were neck-and-neck. FOX would have been well ahead if ‘Lone Star’ weren’t such a dud, dragging those still good ‘House’ numbers down. The CW (1.0/3, 1.876 million) was consistent and last — which is also mostly consistent.

Ratings Recap: It’s the Same Old Song and Dance on Sundays With the New Season

(for Sunday, September 26, 2010) ‘Brothers & Sisters’ proved the most resilient of the returning shows, while the NFL came back down to earth with its ratings; though still very dominant. CBS’s entire premiere lineup was shifted back 17 minutes thanks to their own NFL coverage, making DVR users howl in anguish yet again.

Thanks to ‘Sunday Night Football,’ NBC (5.3/14, 13.478 million) took a commanding lead in the Adults 18-49 demographic, though CBS (3.9/10, 13.269 million) was dangerously close in total viewers thanks to their own football overruns, and solid debuts down their lineup. FOX (3.5/9, 7.603 million) was next in the demo, but dead last in viewers thanks to their notoriously younger-skewing “Animation Domination” lineup, which premiered very well. ABC (2.8/7, 9.102 million) saw mixed results out of its unchanged lineup.
